Although a sweet new pair of fresh white kicks look a million bucks when you first wear them, all it takes is that first little scuff and all of a sudden those once-fresh sneakers are looking a little grubby. However, we have some handy hacks that'll have those white shoes looking like new again in no time.
Prevention is better than cure
However, it is worth noting that prevention is always better than cure. The best thing you can do to keep your white shoes clean is by treating them with a stain and water repellent treatment the moment you get them home. Most shoe shops sell leather protectors or fabric protectors, just ask when you hit the checkout.
Hack #1 – baking soda and detergent
Twitter user, @sarahtraceyy, shared before and after cleaning pictures of her white Converse shoes along with instructions on how she did it. And the best part? You probably have all the ingredients you need in your cupboard.
What you need
- Baking soda
- Detergent
- Toothbrush
Instructions
Mix 1:1.5 parts baking soda and detergent. Scrub the mixture onto your shoes with a toothbrush. Rinse and put shoes in the washing machine – just make sure you remove the laces and inner soles before washing on the delicate setting. Add some towels to the wash to balance the load and to stop the shoes from banging against the drum.
Hack #2 – Magic Eraser
Another way to get white shoes clean again, particularly if they have grippy rubber soles like Converse, is to use a little cleaning tool called a Magic Eraser. This little cube of white foam can remove almost any mark, just add water and start rubbing!
Hack #3 – baking soda and vinegar
Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and a cup of water. Use a cloth or old toothbrush to scrub your sneakers until clean. Works on leather and canvas. This method also apparently works with 1 tablespoon baking soda and 1/2 a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide/water combo. Use a toothbrush dipped in the mixture to scrub the shoes, wait 30 minutes for the baking soda to work its magic, then rinse with water.Save Shoes Collection: Walking shoes, Running shoes, Hiking shoes,… buying tips and advice that we hope will help you finding to perfect shoes for your feet.Published byShoes Collection
Hack #4 – Micellar water
Micellar water is a revolutionary makeup remover product, and it also clean shoes! Just pop some micellar water on a clean cloth and give your white sneakers a good rub down. Works on leather, rubber and suede finishes. xsalehunterView Profile

Hack #5 – Toothpaste
If it's good enough to keep your teeth white, then it's good enough to keep your kicks clean. Add some white-gel toothpaste to an old toothbrush, add a little water and scrub the dirty area of your leather, canvas or mesh shoes, then wipe away excess with a damp cloth.Save How to Clean Your ConverseswikiHowHow to Clean your Converses
Hack #6 – toilet paper and water
This method is best for canvas shoes that – despite undergoing other methods of cleaning – still have yellow marks on them. Soak sheets of toilet paper with water and cover your sneakers with the paper like Papier-mâché. Leave to set and dry for 12 hours. Peel of paper and – voila! clean white shoes sans yellow marks.

Materials required:
- Sea Glow Cleanser and conditioner
- Water
- Paper Towel or Tooth Brush
- 3M or other Non-abrasive scrubbing Pad
Now follow the process and get the answer of how to unyellow soles ineffective ways:
- Take a paper towel or brush. An old toothbrush can be used. I prefer a toothbrush over a paper towel. A Paper towel sometimes leaves paper residues on the sole surface.
- Now, apply Sea Glow onto the surface of the sole. Be careful not to spread the Sea Glow on glued seams. It will react with the glue and dissolve it, and the sole may get detached from the base. Another point is, Sea Glow can react with leather or shiny plastic portions of the shoe. If accidentally, it happens then wipe with a wet paper towel.
- After applying Sea Glow, keep aside the sole for 2-3 minutes. Then, use a scrubbing pad to rub the sole gently. Rubbing will help the Sea Glow to penetrate the sole for effective cleansing
- Next, repeat the previous steps once again. Repetition of previous steps will reduce oxidation on the sole surface.
- Now, Let the shoe sunburn. Ensure the sole faces toward the sun. Sunlight will work as an activation agent for Sea Glow to penetrate deeper. It will help rigorous combat against yellowing. Try to keep the shoe at least an hour in the sunlight.
- Take a bowl of clean water. Soak a clean brush or fresh scrubber into the water, and remove the Sea Glow, Gently. Remember, Gently and Slowly.
- Examine the sole closely. If there are still residues of the cleanser, repeat the last step.
How To Clean Yellow Soles With Baking Soda?
Mainly, cleaning yellow soles with baking soda is the most widely used method to remove sole yellowing. There are two different genres of cleaning shoe soles with baking soda. First, with the incorporation of hydrogen peroxide, and second is without hydrogen peroxide.
First, I will illustrate the procedure ofcleaning discolored soles with Baking soda, toothpaste, washing detergent, toothbrush (used but clean)
- First Step: For cleaning a single pair of shoes, you will need two tablespoons of baking soda. Now, add four tablespoons of laundry detergent. Mix these two ingredients thoroughly. Add water drop by drop and mix to form a paste. When it forms loose and firm paste, stop mixing.
- Second Step: Now, add toothpaste into the previous mixture. Add 10g toothpaste, as per assumption, no need for precise measurements. Again, mix it thoroughly. Tonic is now ready to apply.
- Third Step: With a used toothbrush, clean unnecessary dust and dirt from the sole. Now, apply the mixture with the brush onto the yellowed sole.
- Final Step: Let the mixture dry onto the sole. You can put the shoe under sunlight. Be aware of any dust flow. After drying, keep the shoe aside for 1 to 2 hours. Lastly, clean the paste with slow rinsing of water. You can use a wet brush or wet scrubber to clean off the dried paste as well. Here is a video demo on how to unyellow soles at home.
My lecture series (LOL!) on how to clean yellow soles continues with the amalgammixture of Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, brush, scrubber, and warm water.
- Step One: First note is, hydrogen peroxide is available in any medical store. Now, to start the proceedings, take 20ml of hydrogen peroxide and four tablespoons of laundry detergent into a mixing pot. Mix them thoroughly.
- Step Two: Add a little amount of toothpaste if the paste is too thin. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and make a paste.
- Step Three: Clean the dust off the soles with a used toothbrush. Now, apply the paste onto the affected yellowed areas of the soles. If the sole size is relatively large, you might need more paste.
- Step Four: Cover up the shoes with plastic to avoid oxidation—rest of 30 minutes.
- Final Step: Put the soles in the moderately warm water for 30 minutes and wash it with a brush. When the maximum amount of paste is washed off, scrub it with a scrubber. Ta-Da! Here come the white soles.
